October 6-10
Weekly Curriculum
Reading: We will read "The Dog that Dug for Dinosaurs." We will have an assessment on Friday. Read the 
story each night for homework.
 
Vocabulary: Please have your child complete the vocabulary assignment on the back of the newsletter. 
Please make sure your child is able to spell ALL vocabulary words. 
 
Math: We will be working on "Two-Digit Subtraction With Regrouping" this week. Your child will have a 
homework sheet on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please have him/her complete the homework and 
return it to school the next day. Assessment on Friday.
 
Language: We will review "Nouns and Pronouns" this week. We will have an assessment on Friday.
 
Spelling: Have your child study the following words each night. We will have a practice test on Thursday 
using the 15 spelling words listed below. We will also choose 2 of the vocabulary words to add to the test 
for a total of 17 words. If your child makes a "100" on the practice test, he or she will be exempt from 
the spelling test on Friday.

General Information
• October 9- Last day to buy Fall t-shirts
• October 10- Spirit Shirt Day
• October 13 & 14- Fall Break-NO SCHOOL for students.
• October 15-Report cards go home

• It is very important for your child to attend school for the entire day. A student 
will be counted as absent if they are not in attendance for 63% of the school day.
***PLE is hosting our first annual FALL FESTIVAL***
on Thursday, October 23, from 5:30pm - 7:30pm on the campus of PLE.
This is a community wide event and all proceeds go directly to the students, 
classrooms and teachers at PLE. You will find an order form for a Fall Festival 
T-shirt, these will be delivered before the fall festival. Also you will find an 
order form to order Mugshot burgers to enjoy that night. Mugshots will bring a 
trailer and be selling fresh burgers that night. The week before the festival we 
will be pre selling tickets for kids to use to play the games at the booths. We 
are asking that students send one bag of individually wrapped candy (not 
chocolate) to contribute to the fall festival.
 
 
 
 
2nd Grade Newsletter
September 29-October 3
Weekly Curriculum
Reading: We will read the paperback book, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad
Day" this week, and we will not use the second grade reading textbook. Each day the book will be sent
home for your child to read, and it should be brought back to school on the following day. There will be a
reading assessment on Friday, and the book should be returned to school. We appreciate your cooperation.
Vocabulary: Please have your child complete the vocabulary assignment on the back of the newsletter.
Please make sure your child is able to spell ALL vocabulary words. The vocabulary words will be the same
as last week.

• During the month of September, we will be collecting change for the American Heart 
Association and students can purchase a heart to be displayed in the foyer for $1.00. All 
proceeds with benefit the American Heart Association.
