Reading: We will complete an “Animal” research project in class. A participation grade will be given. No assessment.

Spelling: Have your child study the following words each night. We will have a practice test on Wednesday and the final test on Thursday. If your child makes a "100" on the practice test, he or she will be exempt from the Spelling test on Friday.

  • May 13- Barn Hill Preserve Educational Animal Program. This program is free, but you can send $7 to have your child's picture taken with an animal.

  • May 16- Field Day!

  • May 23- 2nd Grade Talent Show and Awards Day! Talent Show begins at 9:30. We will give awards at 10:30, following the Talent Show. After the awards, we will serve pizza to our students. The awards and pizza party will take place in your child's classroom.

  • May 26- Snow day make-up day! We WILL have ½ day of school.

2nd Grade Newsletter

August 12-16

Weekly Curriculum

Reading: We will read "Henry and Mudge" & “All in the Family” this week. Please have your child read the stories each night for homework. Assessment on Friday.


Vocabulary: curly, straight, floppy, drooled, weighed, stood, collars, row

Please have your child complete the vocabulary assignment on the back of the newsletter. The vocabulary words will be included on the weekly spelling test.


Math: We will be learning about "Models for Hundreds, Tens, and Ones”. Your child will have a homework sheet on Tuesday-Thursday nights. The homework is found on the back of the classwork sheet. Please have him/her complete homework and return to school the next day. Assessment on Friday.


Language: We will be learning about “Subjects and Predicates” this week. Assessment on Thursday.


Spelling: Have your child study the following words each night. We will have a practice test on Thursday and the final test on Friday. If your child makes a "100" on the practice test, he or she will be exempt from the Spelling test on Friday.

  • 2nd Grade students can bring their own healthy snack and drink. Please make sure these items are in a secure, non-leaking bag. Our students will be taking the new reading textbooks home daily.
